Matt
Linz, Fine Art Painting Matt
Linz developed a passion for art at a young age while growing up in a small Minnesota
town. His parents encouraged his artistic aspirations, and at the age of four
enrolled him in art classes for children at the University of Minnesota. Matt
has never lost his passion for creating art. After high school Matt went on to
study illustration, earning his BFA at the College of Visual Arts located in St.
Paul, MN. He went on to a successful career in commercial art as a photographer
and designer. Even though Matt pursued commercial art, he always longed to paint
his own ideas. A
critical element of Matts work is first-hand observation. In order to develop
the skills necessary to communicate his ideas and to avoid the pitfalls of working
only from photographs, Matt began sketching at life-drawing sessions around the
Twin Cities. I never tire of working from life, explains the artist.
The knowledge and understanding gained from a life-painting session is invaluable
to my development as an artist. Artistic
influences include (but are not limited to) John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla,
Nicolai Fechin, and Dean Cornwell. He credits Carolyn Anderson and Kevin Beilfuss
with pushing him to learn to interpret visual information in a more thoughtful
way. In 2002,
Matt received the Rising Star of the Galaxy award from the National Oil and Acrylic
Painters Society. In 2003, he was awarded Signature Artist Status with the National
Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. His work has been featured in American Artist
magazine, Acrylic Highlights. Shop
